Get a job in the Canadian cannabis industry

From Budtenders to a Bachelor of Science, the opportunities in the Canadian cannabis industry continue to grow

The cannabis industry in Canada continues to grow, with new jobs across the country being posted seemingly every day. From licensed dispensaries in Vancouver, to licensed cannabis producers across Canada, to the ancillary brands and companies providing them services, the time has never been better for Canadians to find a job in the cannabis industry.

While by no means exhaustive, here’s a good cross section of jobs available across Canada in the cannabis industry.


Although there are fewer dispensary jobs in Toronto than last year, one Mississauga dispensary is looking for drivers to deliver packages of marijuana in Mississauga, Oakville and Milton. Compensation is $30 per hour and you pay for your own gas and automobile expenses. A head shop in also looking for a sales associate.

Craigslist is also currently listing a job for a photographer for a new cannabis company, and a graphic designer for a cannabis culture website.

In Vancouver, numerous jobs are available as budtenders and customer care associates. Another startup cannabis company “specializing in, but not limited to, edibles like candy and chocolates” is seeking a video production team to help them target 25-35 year old males. Erbachay, at 8425 Granville St is looking for a Customer Care Professional.

At least two Vancouver dispensaries with a business license from the city are also currently looking for help. Green Valley Medicinals, in South Vancouver, is looking for a retail customer service representative. West Canna, another Vancouver dispensary with a business license from the city, is looking for a Sales Associate. In addition to these, the Green Room is seeking a manager/bud-tender for $14 an hour.

In Victoria, Trees dispensary is looking for a full time Bookkeeper.

Cannabis Producers

On the cultivation/producer side of things, the job market becomes even more diverse. From established licensed producers to applicants and those just entering the market, positions are available for growers, software developers, customer care representatives, patient and professional outreach and more.

Grass Roots Pharmaceuticals, an applicant in Calgary, is looking for a standard operating procedure (SOP) developer, and Zenabis/International Herbs, an applicant with an office in Delta, BC, is looking for a general office clerk and a facility administrator. BC’s Tantalus Labs is hiring a cultivation associate and an IT Administrator.

Avicenna Inc., a life sciences company in Toronto that is “focused on innovative and biotechnological advancements in the medical cannabis industry,” is hiring a director of clinical development and R&D for $75,000 a year.

Aurora, an Alberta-based cannabis producer with offices in Vancouver, is looking to hire a client care specialist, and an executive assistant, a systems analyst, as well as a harvest team member. Canopy Growth is looking for a production assistant in Creemore, Ontario, as well as a director of institutional key accounts and a director of pharmacy key accounts.

CannTrust, based in Vaughan, ON, seeks a marketing director, and an order fulfillment technician to pick, scan and ship customer orders using Canada Post, Purolator and other courier services. Ontario’s 7Acres is looking for a director of processing.  7Acres will be holding a job fair on May 6 and 7.

Emblem Cannabis in Paris, ON, needs a facility and maintenance lead and a processing and harvest assistant. Peace Naturals in Stayner, ON, is looking to hire a cleaner. In  Leamington, ON, Aphria is looking for a greenhouse production associate for $12 an hour.

Cannabis Clinics and Ancillary Services

MCRCI, the Medical Cannabis Resource Centre Inc. is looking for a patient care representative.

Now that Ontario has approved nurse practitioners (NPs) to prescribe cannabis for medical purposes, several medical cannabis clinics in Ontario are looking to hire them. Terra Health Network in Mississauga, which describes itself as a cannabinoid education and clinic network, and also Marijuana for Trauma in Ottawa, are both seeking to hire a full time nurse practitioner. MFT describes itself as a veteran-founded company focusing on post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain and other medical conditions that have been demonstrated to respond favourably to cannabinoid therapy.

In Etobicoke, Canrix Inc. is hiring a Registered Nurse Practitioner, as is the Terra Health Network. GrowWise Health, also in Toronto, is hiring a patient educator (RN/PRN) and a new business development and outreach manager

The UBC Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver is hiring a regulatory affairs coordinator for $50,000-60,000 a year to help “effectively navigate Health Canada regulations”  for cannabis related products.

The Cannabinoid Medical Clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia is hiring an Educator.

Lastly, White Cedar Medical Cannabis Doctors in Toronto are hiring a medical office assistant / administrative assistant, as well as a clinic nurse. Natural Health Services in Calgary is hiring a medical office assistant for $17 an hour, and Canadian Cannabis Clinics in Toronto are looking for a PHP and JS Developer at $20.50 an hour.
