MedCannAccess is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Murals of Hope to raise funds for two local charities: the Life Centre and ARCH - HIV/AIDS Resources and Community Health.  Murals of Hope commissioned a local artist, Dorothy Amey, to create a stunning mural reflecting ARCH’s Red Scarf Project.

“MedCannAccess is pledging to match community donations, up to $2,000.  Our team is very excited to be taking part in this collaborative initiative, raising funds for two very important charities within our community and reducing stigma”, said Rade Kovacevic of MedCannAccess.  “We are proud to be taking part in this effort, supporting those in our community who all three of our organizations serve.”

The Red Scarf Project invites community members to get involved by wearing a red scarf throughout November, taking a photo of themselves wearing the red scarf, sharing it on social media, and nominating others to do the same.  The Red Scarf Project offers an opportunity to share facts about HIV in our community, build community and reduce stigma.

“I am so delighted by the generous support of MedCannAccess and Murals of Hope”, said Tom Hammond Executive Director of ARCH.  “Creative collaborations such as this initiative will assist us in our efforts to challenge HIV stigma in our community.”

“MedCannAccess’ generous sponsorship is supporting the Life Centre and its programs that provide over 26,000 meals every year“, said Kevin Coghill Director of the Life Centre.

“This mural is a wonderful example of how two charities can work together to achieve something awesome”, said Sian Matwey of Murals of Hope.  ”At the launch on Friday, with a small donation, you will be given the chance to sign your name on the mural becoming a part of this exciting initiative!”

The mural will be unveiled and donations collected on Friday November 21st and available to view from 12-5pm in front of Old Quebec Street Mall and from 5:30-7:30pm in Old Quebec Street Mall.

The community is also able to view the mural and make donations on November 22, 25, 26, 27, and 28 from 10:30am – 6pm at MedCannAccess’ office, Suite 201 in Old Quebec Street Mall.  The mural will be donated to ARCH to be hung in their office for World AIDS Day on December 1st.

ARCH provides multidisciplinary services, education and support through innovative health promotion strategies and community partnerships.

The Life Centre’s goal is to provide a safe and loving environment for anyone who is in need.

Murals of Hope engages local artists in the designing and completion of murals to be displayed throughout the city of Guelph in collaboration with local charities.
